Langdale Ferns 2014

 The Langdale Ferns - 2014
Wakefield & District Housing Ltd were regenerating a housing estate in Lower Ferry Fryston and called upon Groundwork Wakefield to design and implement the landscaping of neglected public open areas. Having worked with other Groundwork branches in Cheshire and Greater Manchester, Adrian was well known to the organisation for his community based public sculptures.

He was commissioned to create a centrepiece for a prominent corner site and immediately held an open air public workshop nearby. Several residents and families came out to join in and by the end of the day not only had dozens of models been produced, but also a full size mock-up of a particularly popular idea Adrian had discussed with the participants.

The finished work is a group of three fern sculptures that stand proudly at the entrance to Langdale Close. Residents involved in the project see the artwork as an expression of new growth for their community, and a symbol of co-operation between local families & friends.
