Air to Breathe 2014

Air To Breathe - 2014
Inspired by a baby’s need for oxygen to grow and develop properly in the womb and early years of life, the sculpture was commissioned by Manchester Public Health Authority to promote the benefits of smoke free pregnancy and childbirth.

The idea was conceived by Siobhain Moakes and developed with Adrian Moakes as a joint commission. They held workshops across the local area with pregnant women, new mums and their partners, who worked from their own baby’s scan images to make little wire models that Adrian painstakingly recreated in steel and formed into the central ‘foetus’ part of the sculpture.
